Destination spotlight – Bratislava

Vicki visited Bratislava earlier this year and was both surprised and delighted with what she found. Read on to find out more…

Location

The surprisingly modern, yet ancient city of Bratislava in Slovakia is located on the Danube River in the heart of Europe. It is the only capital in the world with three international borders – Austria, Hungary and Czechia. It’s an EU member state and the local currency is the Euro.

Access

Although it does have its own airport, most international visitors arrive at Vienna Airport, a short transfer away. It is a shade over two hours from London, Paris, and Stockholm. Most European cities are under three hours flight time.

The City

The centre of Bratislava is pedestrianised and perfect for strolling! There is an appealing mix of historical buildings and cultural heritage, cobbled streets and cosy restaurants. Surrounding the centre is a modern sprawl with a world leading reputation as an innovation hub. This includes:

  • some of the fastest internet connections in Europe
  • several major automotive manufacturing plants
  • regional HQs for some of the pharmaceutical and tech giants

Why Bratislava?

There are currently more than 120 hotels ranging from the simple through to renowned hotel chains such as Marriott, Radisson, IHG, Accor, Hilton Worldwide, Austria Trend Hotels and Falkensteiner Hotels & Residences all have a presence in the city. Of Bratislava’s four and five-star hotels, The Doubletree by Hilton has capacity for 650 theatre style in its largest meeting room, whilst there are five others that can offer space for 350 theatre style.

All this, together with a great reputation for safety and lower hotel rates than its near neighbours, provides an excellent solution for small and medium sized events. The city boasts approx. 3,200 beds in the four and five star hotel categories and conference spaces for up to 2,000.

Surrounded by vineyards and the Little Carpathian Mountains, this attractive city has so much to offer the incentive market as well, whilst it also enjoys a roaring nightlife – from concerts to clubs to trendy converted industrial venues, there’s a bit of something for everyone here!
